Does alcohol help you blog

** Warning: I do not promote underage drinking, its illegal so don't do it! I am assuming that anyone who wants to have an alcoholic beverage after reading this is of the legal age to do so" **

As my 12 hour work day winds down and I sit here staring at my wall I'm at a loss for words what I can possibly blog about. Perhaps its the fact that I slept 4 hours last night, or perhaps its the 80 hour work week finally catching up to me. As great as this seasons Bruins & Celtics run is and as awaited as this Sundays Patriots vs Colts match up is I am just simply burnt out on sports for the week. While debating which sports team to devote Friday nights blog to I came to another debate which in return solved my blogging woes.
Friday nights are usually a time to unwind from the week of stress. People choose to unwind in different ways, my choice has always been alcohol. Not obsessive amounts like some peoples college days but just a drink or two to simply relax and enjoy the night. As I hastily uncorked the oldest bottle of pinot and reached for the glass, it suddenly hit me I have a blog due. Boston fans are a fun bunch, especially when their teams are winning and boy are we winning. The Bruins are only 2 points away from the Division lead, The Celtics have the best record in the Eastern Conference and even the Patriots are tied for first place with the Jets in their division. So there was my conundrum, do I drink or do I write? I chose both, but in a sophisticated mature way, I chose to write about drinking.
With a full glass in my hand, and very little desire to research scores, standings or .. well .. facts, I decided to write about the pros and cons of drinking and blogging. Lets start with the pros. For years I have heard AND seen that alcohol tends to loosen people up. It inhibits most peoples "reserved" demeanor and tends to bring them out of their turtle like shell. When it comes to writing that seems like a huge pro to me. Who wants to read a boring unenthusiastic statistic filled blog on a Friday night? Especially since most people in Boston will get a chance to read that type of writing in the Boston Globe's sports section tomorrow morning. People want to be entertained, and as I stare at my now empty glass of wine I realize I am up to the task.
Back with another full glass I'm ready for more pros. Since my alcohol of choice is wine, the next pro is an easy one. Research over the years has indicated that moderate intake of alcohol improves cardiovascular health, and we all know how important a healthy heart is. The healthier I am, the longer I will live which in exchange equal more time to blogging. Man if I keep this up I might not ever blog sober again. As I sip my 2nd glass another thing comes to mind. Alcohol is a stimulant, blogging is a task for my "profession". Professionals have been using so called stimulants for ages to increase performance. Look at steroids in Baseball, Human Growth Hormone in Football, Viagra in pornography and the list goes on. Professionals always seem to perform better with the use of "performance enhancing" stimulants. I see no difference between me using a "stimulant" to increase performance & Barry Bonds using a "stimulant" to break the home run record.
Finishing my second glass I have come to realize that as strong as the pros are the one con far outweighs all the pros. I am now officially sleepy. Maybe red wine was not the best choice for this experiment especially when the previous night consisted of 4 hours of sleep. Blogging is all about entertaining and being entertained. I have certainly entertained myself writing this, I sure hope I have entertained the person reading this.
